ULTIMATE NEW SUPER DUPER HYPER CULTRIS GUIDE

hey there,

so i was pretty damn bored the last few days, and thought about making a guide for new players, in order to help them. but actually i think it can help older players too.

comments/critics/... are wanted, but please only constructive critics. it was a lot of work and i hope it can be helpfull for some of you.

Tobi

Re: ULTIMATE NEW SUPER DUPER HYPER CULTRIS GUIDE

Nice guide.

From my experience, misdropping is (sometimes) a wonderful thing. Well it screws you often, but other times you learn new things about how to play the game (not just how to recover). A misdrop is not always a bad move, but turns out to be a very clever move. You can play for years, and still learn new things from misdropping. So to the new players, don't be shy about misdropping, it will just make you stronger.

The stick is probably the worst piece for a game like cultris in my opinion, where it's quite important in other tetris games.

I wish there was a single player highscore. That would make it more fun to play.

Lastly, I don't like the name "observer" (you mentioned my name), because observing the game while I play, is probably the last thing I do. I screw up a lot, and I may send a combo or two in the beginning, or someone is sending me a big combo early. I just try to survive from all the attacks, you could call it "survivor" type. :)

Re: ULTIMATE NEW SUPER DUPER HYPER CULTRIS GUIDE

Nice guide !! Really great job Tox like usual.

and..

i have something to add at this for the case

9. Premises

you can boost your cultris game by :

turn off your firewall (dangerous - at your own risk)

turn off your antivirus - active scan (checking your files in real time on your hard drive)

turn off all small applications you dont need when you are playing (msn, open office launcher, browser, etc..)

and (for windows version) go in your Windows Task Manager (right clic on taskbar: Taskbar Manager)

In Processes tab, check for cultris-19.exe and right clic on it

go in "Set priority" > High (or Realtime but at your own risk too, sometimes you can get lags)

in this Processes tab, you can kill explorer.exe (dangerous if you dont know how relaunch it)

for that Ctrl Alt Suppr and in your Windows Task Manager , File > Executuer : explorer.exe

You can also optimise your computer in 16 bits (ugly graphics but faster for low computer)

and again one small thing about the point 9.6, if you are or want to be a fast player attack power with huge combo very fast

choose a drop key for your main hand (i'm a left hand, i use only the W key for drop and for my right hand : 4 6 for move 8 5 for rotate 2 for slowdrop)

Enjoy !

PS : some things in my post are dangerous, be careful..

Re: ULTIMATE NEW SUPER DUPER HYPER CULTRIS GUIDE

@cfb: you re right about the missdrops, but i think that only players who played for some years, can really profit from missdrops. for new players its way easier to prevent them first. Oh and i removed your name and changed the title of the player type :-) i hope its ok now.

@Jtadore: thx dude ;-)

i added your hints to the guide!

guide is updated!

Re: ULTIMATE NEW SUPER DUPER HYPER CULTRIS GUIDE

Thanks a lot for this guide i carefully read, i learned some useful things in it :)

t0x : Well, it happens also for "new" players: we do not place a block where we intend to, then we swear, then ... "Wait, why not, after all?" which leads us to think about the not-so-misdrop. It happened twice to me in the last few days (well, but in most cases it *was* a wrong thing =), i cant say the contrary ).

Additionnal question : why is cultris taking so much computer resources ?

hi

Re: ULTIMATE NEW SUPER DUPER HYPER CULTRIS GUIDE

@Marc: I think thats because of the Java platform...

I dont know if this is a great tip but i did the following to save some time while playing: I looked at every piece individualy to see in what position i use it most. Like for the L blocks i use them mostly upside down. So i have them comming down like a 7, in that case i wont have to rotate them so much.

Cultris II runs on my machine with buttery 60+ FPS when playing against 4 "deadly" AIs and uses less than half a core for that (Core 2 @ 2.4GHz). And runs on Java as well. Ye olde clue shoppe is open Mondays to Fridays, 8 AM to 5 PM.

@Simon Ye olde clue shoppe is open? really dude wth does that mean?
Ok so its not the java platform since cultris 2 runs like a baby does that mean cultris 1 is just bad(less good) programmed?

Re: ULTIMATE NEW SUPER DUPER HYPER CULTRIS GUIDE

@Marc: thx :-)

yeah i totally know those moments where u suddenly realise that a missdrop is not as bad as it first looked... but actually as far as i can remember when i was a noob, i never thought that far. and i think that really really really new players wont get that feeling...

@java discussion: please open a new topic... i dont want my own personal thread being abused by some java things :-P yes

Re: ULTIMATE NEW SUPER DUPER HYPER CULTRIS GUIDE

For really really really new players, every piece drop is a misdrop. Sometimes they accidentally clear a line by mistake, and they start learning how to play tetris. :)

(and java is not slow, it just need to warm up first)
