Re: Riddle game

13cows and 7 chickens, I forgot how to put it in a formula so I went down the trial and error train

Re: Riddle game

indeed, trial and misstake!

Formular would have looked like this:

  • variables: x  = number of cows, y = number of chickens
  • linear equation system:
  • 2*x + 2*y = 40 (eye formular)
  • 4*x + 2*y = 64 (leg formular)

Re: Riddle game

OK here we go: Combining the numbers 6, 4, 3 and 1, you can create all integer numbers between 1 and 33. With combining I mean using the 4 basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). You must use each number exactly 1 time, but you can rearrange the order (and use brackets). For example we have

  • 1 = (6+1)/(4+3)
  • ...
  • 24 = ???
  • ...
  • 31 = (6+4)*3+1
  • 32 = (6+3-1)*4
  • 33 = (6+4+1)*3

I want you to create the number 24!

Re: Riddle game

whats the point of a mathematical question which u can only solve by try & error?

maybe thats just me, but when i hear "riddle thread" i think about something that can be solved within a few minutes with hard thinking or logical thinking.

anyway, may the geekiest geek win!

Re: Riddle game

LOL t0x this can be solved in just a few minutes.

At first, you might try to do an addition or subtraction as last operation. But you will notice pretty fast, that you cannot combine the other 3 numbers to 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28, 32. So it's all about finding a proper factorization of 24.

24 = 6*4 = 8*3 = ???

At this point, it is more about logic than you might think.

This was my first hint BTW.
